praying

Phew, back online! I think it has been a month now more or less without a fresh post on my blog. Well, we have been to prague for a weekend and my computer broke down a couple of weeks ago. Luckily it was just the screen and nothing got lost. This shot is from our trip to Prague, an old lady I saw praying in one of the many churches that Prague has.

Oosterweel Church

In the harbour of Antwerp, you find a small church near Amerika dock. It’s the only building that it is left of what used to be the tiny polder village of Oosterweel (1070 inhabitants in its glory days :-) ). The entire village has been knocked down for the building of the port’s docks, but they left the church there as a monumental memory. As you can see, the church lies five meters lower than the surrounding area (as it was situated in the polder).

Oosterweel Church

The church is very tiny but so nice and cosy. Not the most photographically interesting place, but you feel the history here.

Oosterweel Church

The church is closed for public acces these days as it is falling into decay.

Twente University, Enschede

Twente University

Last week I was in Enschede for a conference at the university of Twente, which was located a few kilometers out of the city’s centre. The Dutch bus drivers were on a strike, so there was no way of going to the centre, leaving us stuck on the campus. The only interesting thing to shoot was this church tower in a pool. It seems as if there is a complete church under the water surface, but it’s just a piece art. I forgot the name of the artist though. :-)
